The front section of the chassis was completely rusted through. This is how it looked after we cut it from the center tube section. rusted_head.jpg

Before cutting away the old section we measured a few dimentions around the chassis.

We made three to define the position of the front spring tubes relative to the rear tube.

In this photo and the photo above we are checking the dimention that will ultimately define the wheelbase of the Ghia. We don't want to change this or have one side longer than the other. measure_rear.jpg

Here, we took a third distance to define the castor angle. Again, we didn't want to change anything about the shape of things. The first two measurements were quite low, and this dimention was as high as we could find. Since three points define a plane, we should be able to locate the new section reasonaby square. measure_top.jpg

All done! The seam turned out better than we expected. The dimentions we recorded in the first few steps were within a millimeter of the new ones in all directions. done.jpg
